


Bill Taylor, a constant and important part of TIERS entire history, died of cancer at the Gouverneur home of family on Thursday, February 1. A retired farmer, crane operator and United States Air Force veteran, he leaves a son, six daughters, numerous other relatives, longtime companion Mary Bishop, hundreds of memories, and a proud legacy of volunteering to serve others through TIERS, DePauville Fire Department and Jefferson County Fire Police Association. He was also past President of D.A.D. Post 80 Gouverneur and past president of the Riverview Apartments Tenant's Association before moving to DePauville.

Wilford “Bill” F. Taylor, 69, of County Route 11,
died at the home of his daughter Thursday in Gouverneur where he had been under
the care of his family for five days. He was under the care of the Hospice of
Jefferson County, before going to his daughters five days ago.
The
funeral will start at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Depauville Fire Hall; by a
service by the Jefferson County Fire Police, then followed by Father Chris
Carrara Pastor of St. Mary’s Church and Jefferson County’s Fire Department
Chaplin officiating. Spring Burial will be in Depauville Cemetery.
Calling hours will
be held noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the fire hall.
Born Oct., 3 1937, in Old DeKalb, the son of Wilford Paro and Ruth Taylor; he
attended Governeur and Edwards Schools.
He married the former Joan Lewis. The marriage ended in separation.
He enlisted in the United States Air force April 25, 1955, and was honorably
discharged Sept. 25, 1957.
He worked on a farm, did mill work, worked in mines, heavy equipment at Rome
Strip Steel as a crane operator in Rome, N.Y.
He was a driver for T.I.E.R.S. until his illness. He was also a member of the
Depauville Fire Department, Jefferson County Fire Police Association, and past
President of D.A.D. Post 80 Gouverneur.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are a son, Wilford II “Willie", Governeur; six daughters and two
son-in-laws, Lisa Young, Richville, Connie Jones, Governeur, Wanda Fonenteau,
Fort Worth, Texas, Peggy and Tim LaMerce, Fort Worth, Tammy and Fred Tharrett,
Fullerville, and Kelly Martin, town of LeRay; a stepdaughter, Victoria Sharp,
Gouveneur; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three maternal half
bothers, Donny Burnett, Watertown, Lyle Burnett, Lowville and Sonny Burnett,
Central Square; three paternal half brothers, Bill Paro, North Carolina, David
Paro, Watertown, and Larry Paro, New Jersey; four maternal half sisters,
Harriett Martin, Governeur, Hilda Facey, Lee Center, Charlotte Fauntain, Rome
and Sandra Whaley, Oneida; a paternal half sister, Linda address unknown; nieces
and nephews, stepbrothers and stepsisters; and his companion, Mary Bishop,
Depauville.
Three maternal
half sisters predeceased him, Hazel Bressett, Debra and Gladys Burnett.
