Curricula. All emergency medical
services training courses that result in state certification shall meet the
following minimum standards regarding curricula for the specified certfication
level.
- Any curriculum for each
specified certification level must contain the following minimum course
content areas:
- Certified First
Responder (CFR)
- basic adult and
pediatric patient assessment, including history taking, physical
assessment, and determination of vital signs;
- basic cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR);
- basic airway
management and oxygen therapy;
- basic hemorrhage
control;
- manual stabilization
of the spine;
- spinal
immobilization, including application of a rigid extrication collar; and
- emergency
childbirth.
- Emergency Medical
Technician - Defibrillation (EMT-D). In addition to the requirements of
clause (a) of this subparagrah:
- basic management of
soft tissue injuries;
- basic management of
suspected fractures;
- basic management of
shock and use of medical anti-shock trousers;
- basic management of
medical and traumatic emergencies, adult and pediatric;
- adult automated
external defibrillation; and
- basic management of
behavioral emergencies
- Emergency Medical
Technician-Intermediate (EMT-I). In addition to the requirements of
clauses (a) and (b) of this subparagraph:
- advanced airway
management with endotracheal intubation and other definitive airways;
and
- peripheral
intravascular therapy.
- Emergency Medical
Technician-Critical Care (EMT-CC). In addition to the requirements of
clauses (a), (b) and (c) of this subparagraph:
- medication
administration;
- fundamentals of
electrocardiogram (EKG) rhythm interpretation and manual defibrillation;
- advanced management
of life-threatening cardiovascular emergencies;
- synchronized
cardioversion;
- advanced management
of respiratory emergencies;
- advanced management
of endocrine emergencies; and
- advanced
management of anaphylaxis, poisoning, drug abuse and overdose.
- Emergency Medical
Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P). In addition to the requirements of clauses
(a), (b), and (d) of this subparagraph:
- advanced
electrocardiogram (EKG) rhythm interpretation;
- advanced management
of cardiovascular emergencies;
- chest decompression;
- surgical airways;
- transcutaneous
pacing;
- advanced management
of central nervous system emergencies;
- advanced management
of acute abdomen, genitourinary and reproductive system emergencies;
- advanced management
of environmental emergencies;
- advanced management
of geriatric emergencies;
- advanced management
of pediatric emergencies;
- advanced management
of obstetrical and gynecological (OB/GYN) emergencies;
- management of
neonatal emergencies; and
- management of
behavioral emergencies including pharmacological interventions
