AEMT- Paramedic   - The Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service Inc. (TIERS) is seeking one full-time candidate for the position of Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic for planned shifts of 24 hours on a rotation schedule. TIERS provides emergency 911 services to the Towns of Clayton and Orleans along the St Lawrence River as well as mutual aid to multiple townships throughout the unique northern region of Jefferson County.  The position will be full time and will include TIERS benefit package of paid time off, BCBS Health Plan, Simple IRA Retirement Plan with a 3% employer match and disability insurance.

 The position requires current NYS Paramedic certification and all capacities of emergency care as a pre-hospital care provider, certain clerical duties, general duties during shift, supervision of ambulance operations, and special project assignments. Compensation will be equal or greater that other area providers as well as  experience.  A resume must be submitted with candidate’s application.

AEMT-Paramedic Job Description:

• Responsible for the performance of the ambulance and crew at all times during assigned shifts

• "General Principles of All Personnel apply”
• Responsible for the checking of vehicle, equipment, and supplies according to policy at the start of each shift.
• Sign for supplies to be restocked during shift
• Direct patient care
• Function as a paramedic
• Provide guidance and supervision of other crew members as needed.
• Assure that all TIERS policies/procedures are followed by each crewmember, and report deficiencies of such to supervision.
• Assure that all protocols for patient care are followed.
• Sign for controlled substances and assure adherence to policies/procedures for such.
• Oversee the complete documentation of all paperwork such as Patient Care Reports, supply requests, incident reports, etc.
• Responsible for maintaining vehicle, equipment, and quarters in a clean operating manner.
• Ensure that actions of all crewmembers are professional and courteous at all times.
• Works in role of instructor trainer for new employees and volunteer staff on a continuous basis.
• Provides training, instruction of classes or community outreach programs on a continual basis.
• Other duties as assigned by Director of Operations

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Current NY State EMT-Paramedic certification
• Current AHA / ARC / NSC BLS card
• Current NY State Drivers license
• Maintains good standing in NC EMS System
• Successful completion of Orientation process

General Requirements of All Personnel

    All personnel regardless of job assignment must:

• Be at least ( 18 / 21 )  years of age

• Have satisfactory physical and mental health to carry out usual related responsibilities and obligations
• Have the ability to communicate verbally, via telephone and radio equipment
• Have the ability to interpret written and oral instructions
• Have the ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high stress situations
• Have ability to be unaffected by loud noises and flashing lights
• Have the ability to read English language manuals, write, and converse in English
• Have the ability to accurately discern street signs
• Have good manual dexterity, with ability to perform all tasks related to motor vehicle operation and/or patient care
• Have the ability to bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain
• Have the ability to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, and moisture
• Have the ability to work in low light and confined spaces
• Have references acceptable to Operations Group within Board of Directors
• Complete an application for membership and health assessment
• Maintain a current CPR card and certifications
• Maintain Good Standing guidelines
• Function as a member of a specialized caring team focused on community service and dedication
• Act in a professional and courteous manner at all times
• Understand teambuilding starts at the top and with you as part of a organizational chain
• Be willing to teach new members patient care skills and operational procedures
• Be and become a life long learner and an advocate of patient care and patient’s rights
