The sad day is now past; the last bell has been rung for our Mark.

Thanks to all who traveled such long distances and to the departments and agencies who feel that the honor in coming outweighs the expense. Almost 200 fire, EMS and police units, plus the four ladder trucks (Clayton, Canton, City of Watertown and Town of Watertown), who formed the two flag arches,  hundreds of men and women from all corners of New York State, Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Canada there to honor our comrade, and fire and EMS men and women from our neighboring counties gave their time to come and cover our calls: (EMS: Central Oneida County Ambulance, Menter Ambulance, Lewis County Search and Rescue, Ogdensburg Rescue, Greater Lenox Ambulance Service, Northern Oswego County Ambulance Service, McFee Ambulance Service, Cazenovia Area Volunteer Ambulance, Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps, Guilfoyle Ambulance, Syracuse University Ambulance, TLC/Cortland County Ambulance, Oswego County Ambulance Service, Western Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps, East Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Bangs Ambulance Service).

We in Jefferson County honor you, as you have honored Mark.

A WORD ABOUT ...HONOR

The members of the FDNY*EMS Pipes and Drums turned down more comfortable overnight accommodations because of how strongly they feel that such a trip is a duty, not a time for comfort. They slept, instead, on cots at the Clayton Fire Department.

That's Honor.

"Spread the word--guys from out of town were treated very well, and your neighbors in Chaumont did an outstanding job of taking care of weary travelers.  We were fed, interviewed, briefed and sent on our way to the lineup--and treated like brothers everywhere we went.  Please be sure to let the organizers know that we appreciated their hard work; we understood that it was a task everyone would rather not have had, but they performed admirably."
Eric Pierce
Captain, Cooperstown Emergency Squad
